There are hundreds of researchers at Mizzou, each working on important and interesting research and creative projects. Besides googling websites, how do you find out about what all these people are studying? Let us introduce you to some of these folks! In this series of panel discussions, Exploring Research Communities @ Mizzou will bring together a small group of Mizzou faculty who work on a similar topic, but approach it from very different directions. Faculty will discuss their research topics and what students in their labs might expect.
In this panel, the unifying theme is 'Community-Based Research,' a methodology where researchers work WITH the community where the community members are participating to some degree in the research process:
- Rob Petrone (College of Education), research interests - K-12 educational practices through the eyes of skate-boarders and indigenous youth enrolled in alternative schools.
- Kiruba Krishnaswamy (College of Engineering), research interests - develops innovative food technologies geared toward maternal and child health for local and global development
- Clark Peters (College of Health Science, Social Work), research interests - child welfare services, judicial oversight and strategies to increase wellbeing for young people in state care
- Joan Hermsen (Sociology), research interests - food insecurity and food pantry use, social consequences of delayed parenthood, and young adult attitudes related to covid-19
- Medeia Csoba-DeHass (Geography), research interests - indigenous data governance and the role of digital 3D models in preserving Arctic Indigenous heritage
