Curious about how to get a job at the Center for Disease Control? The CDC offers several non-traditional post-doctoral fellowships that can launch a career in public health, epidemiology and more! We will have two speakers from two different fellowship programs speaking: Dr. Maureen Ty in the Laboratory Leadership Service Program and Dr. Nicholas Olivarez in the Association of Public Health Laboratories fellowship. Maureen is a CDC LLS fellow assigned to the Dallas County Public Health Laboratory. She designs and performs verification and validation studies for Virology, LRN (Laboratory Response Network) and Sequencing units that leads to the rapid onboarding of new diagnostic systems during outbreaks. She is skilled in quality management systems, public health laboratory operations and safety risk assessments.Maureen received her PhD in Microbiology at New York University School of Medicine, where she studied innate immune response to parasitic infections, particularly Malaria, Chagas disease and Leishmaniasis. She continued her postdoctoral training at Stanford University, utilizing systems immunology approaches to determine mechanisms driving clinical immunity to malaria infections in children and pregnant women in Uganda.
