As a member of the Informed Citizens Society, you’ll gain practical skills, leadership experience, and meaningful opportunities to engage with democracy in a thoughtful, nonpartisan way.
Members will:
- Build Media Literacy Skills
- Learn how to identify misinformation, spot AI-generated content and deepfakes, evaluate sources, and understand how algorithms shape political information.
- Develop Civil Dialogue & Facilitation Skills
- Participate in guided discussions and workshops—often in partnership with Braver Angels—that teach how to have respectful, productive conversations across political differences.
- Engage in Nonpartisan Civic Participation
- Attend events that explain ballots, local government, elections, and civic processes without partisan messaging, empowering you to participate confidently and responsibly.
- Gain Leadership & Professional Experience
- Help plan campus-wide events, workshops, and community programs; develop skills in public communication, event coordination, research, and facilitation—valuable for journalism, law, public service, and nonprofit careers.
- Collaborate Across Disciplines
- Collaborate with students from journalism, political science, communications, psychology, STEM, and other disciplines to address misinformation and polarization from multiple perspectives.
- Connect with Experts & Community Leaders
- Engage with journalists, faculty, civic officials, librarians, and nonprofit partners through panels, trainings, and community events.
- Make a Real Community Impact
- Participate in outreach initiatives with local schools, libraries, and nonprofits to bring media literacy and civic education beyond campus.
