Mizzou Society for Human Resource Management Constitution November 3, 2022

Article I- Official Name

The name of this organization shall be Mizzou Society for Human Resource Management (MU SHRM).

Article II – Statement of Purpose

The purpose of Mizzou Society for Human Resource Management shall be to stimulate student interest in the human resource management discipline.

Article III – Statement of Compliance

We agree to abide by all regulations described in the Guidelines for Recognized Student Organizations, all University policies, in addition to all federal, state, and local laws.

Article IV – Notice of Non-Discrimination

This organization shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, religion, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, disability, protected veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable state or federal law. As used in this policy, the word “sex” is also inclusive of the term “gender”.

Article V – Membership

SECTION I: Membership shall be open to any currently enrolled student or employee of the University.

SECTION II: Members must attend at least two (2) MU SHRM meetings or events in an academic year to be eligible to vote in officer elections.

Article VI – Election of Officers

SECTION I: The following officers shall be elected on a yearly basis every April for the following school year (August-May term): President, Vice President, Treasure, Secretary, Membership Chair, Public Relations Chair, and Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Chair. These positions require the elected officers to have a minimum GPA of 2.2 on a 4.0 scale.

SECTION II: Officers will be elected by majority vote of voting-eligible members. The vote will be conducted via secret ballot and counted by current officers/advisors. Elected officers must also be voting-eligible members for Mizzou Society for Human Resource Management. Executive Board members will meet at least once per month for the duration of their term.

Article VII – Executive Power Duties

SECTION I - President

Shall preside at all meetings of this chapter; shall act as chairperson of the Executive Council; and shall be an ex-officio member of all committees except the Nominating Committee. The president shall generate and update the chapter mission statement and annual goals/objectives. The president shall appoint chairpersons for standing and temporary committees, and shall administer the business of this chapter between regular meetings, exercising authority consistent with the powers given in the bylaws.

SECTION II - Vice President

Shall perform the duties of the president in the event of their absence or at the president's request. If the office of the president becomes vacant, the vice president will temporarily act as president of this chapter. The chapter membership will then nominate and vote on a permanent replacement for the president. Shall also be responsible for coordinating the semester calendar of events for the chapter. The vice president oversees the director of professional development and the director of DEI.

SECTION III - Secretary

Shall take minutes of meetings, distribute meeting agenda and previous meeting minutes, circulate sign-in and sign-up sheets at meetings, make copies available of relevant announcements, scholarship forms, and any other materials for distribution at chapter meetings. The secretary shall also distribute all announcements, meeting agenda and minutes for chapter members. The secretary oversees the director of communication and marketing.

SECTION IV - Treasurer

The treasurer has the responsibility for gathering, distributing and managing the chapter's funds. Sound chapter operations require the establishment of and adherence to realistic budgets. All officers should be informed of funds budgeted for chapter activities prior to planning for the year.

SECTION V - Director of Professional Development

Shall work with the vice president to plan professional development events and activities throughout the school year. The director of professional development may work with Business Career Services to coordinate events

SECTION VI - Director of Communications and Marketing

Shall post fliers and contact interested student organizations to advertise upcoming chapter events and generate a chapter newsletter each semester. The director of communications and marketing will also be responsible for managing the chapter’s social media accounts (LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram).

SECTION VII - Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

Shall work with the vice president to plan educational activities relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the school year. The director of DEI will also serve as a driving force for conversation surrounding DEI within our own organization.

Article VIII – Removal of Officers

SECTION I. Any member may make a motion for the removal of any elected officer providing that evidence is presented to support the removal to the Membership Chair. Grounds for removal include the inadequate fulfillment of aforementioned duties or the violation of regulations described in the Guidelines for Recognized Student Organizations, University policies or any federal, state, or local laws. A two-thirds vote of the other executive board members is needed to remove an officer.

SECTION II. Nominations to refill the position will be called for at the next scheduled club meeting. The person elected via the voting procedures outlined above will assume the duties of the position immediately after being elected.

Article IX – Advisor

SECTION I. The organization must select one faculty or staff member (at least 75% FTE) to serve as advisor. The advisor will be responsible for setting up applicable meetings with the executive board, running said meetings, attending necessary organization-wide meetings, and providing support for organizing events which directly involve the Trulaske College of Business.

Article X – Removal of Advisor

SECTION I. Grounds for removal include the inadequate fulfillment of aforementioned duties or the violation of regulations described in the Guidelines for Recognized Student Organizations, University policies or any federal, state or local laws.

Article XI – Constitution Amendments

SECTION I. Amendments to the Constitution must be submitted to and approved by the Coordinator for Student Organizations before they become effective.
