Conferences

National Conference

Every fall, a group of members travel to SWE's National Conference to network with collegiate and professional members from all across the world. Attendees have the opportunity to meet with employers and network for internship and full-time positions. Previous attendees received offers from employers such as Apple, Medtronic, United Airlines, Northrop Grumman, and more!

In 2023, six members of Mizzou's chapter travelled to Los Angeles, California for the WE23 Conference. There were over 21,000 participants in attendance!

Regional Conference

Every spring, a group of members travel to the Midwest WeLocal Conference to connect with collegiate and professional members from around the region. Attendees participate in professional development sessions, listen to inspirational speakers, and connect with SWE members on a personal level.

In 2024, eight members travelled to Wichita, Kansas and had a great time meeting other chapters and learning more about the Air Capital of the World!

Outreach

Girl Scout Day & Daughter Day

Mizzou's SWE chapter hosts two large outreach events each year. Girl Scout Day is a chance for elementary-aged girls to participate in a full day of STEM-based activities. Daughter Day is catered towards middle and high school-aged girls and consists of hands-on activities, speakers, and college admissions information.

Local STEM Outreach

Throughout the year SWE participates in outreach events with local elementary schools to encourage interest in engineering. We lead activities such as creating homemade bottle rockets, making DIY lava lamps, and exploring the different engineering disciplines.

In 2023-2024 it was estimated that Mizzou SWE reached ~240 students through outreach efforts.

Service

Mizzou SWE strongly believes in giving back to local communities through volunteer work and community service. We regularly engage in a variety of service projects to make a positive impact. For example, our members volunteer at local food banks, helping to pack food for families in need. Additionally, we are passionate about education and frequently conduct STEM outreach programs around Columbia. Our goal is to foster a spirit of service and give back to our community.

Social Events

SWE hosts a variety of social events throughout the year for members to meet and mingle. A few notable events are:

Corn Maze

Every fall, SWE members are invited to visit Shryock's corn maze for some fall fun! We navigate the maze, roast marshmallows, and enjoy other barnyard activities.

COE Semi-Formal

At the end of the fall semester, SWE members participate in Semi-Formal hosted by MESC, where members have the chance to dress up and meet students within other organizations.

Engineers' Week

Queen Candidates

Every year, SWE members nominate graduating seniors to participate in E-Week Royalty to represent SWE. The week consists of a variety of events including a hot dog banquet, skits and barbecue, a trip to Jefferson City, and a formal ball where a Queen and King candidate are crowned.

Ada Wilson Green Tea Event

Ada Wilson was the first female engineer to graduate from the University of Missouri’s College of Engineering in 1907. Mizzou SWE remembers Ada Wilson every year by hosting a key-note speaker and tea at the Chancellor’s Residence on Mizzou campus in her honor. Mizzou SWE puts a special emphasis on celebrating those who pioneered engineering fields to work towards inclusion.
